We are always told to have faith… to have faith that we’ll be able to tackle a big work project, that our expenses will be taken care of, that everything will be A-OK. But how exactly can we, as humans, be expected to handle so much?
Well, the good news is that we aren’t expected to at all. Faith has nothing to do with our abilities, but everything to do with GOD’s. Because if it was something we could do in our own strength, what would we need faith for? More importantly, what would we need GOD for?
When you think about the really spectacular stories in the Bible, they always involve faith in things that the individual could not do on their own—Joshua and the Wall of Jericho, Moses and the Red Sea, the loaves of bread and the fish… in each case, people believed not in their own power to overcome, but in GOD’s. And the results are written down in history!
Now if you’ve never truly had faith in GOD before, starting out can seem daunting. How do you just “surrender” and admit that you are not always in control? It’s really all about taking HIS word and promises to heart. Talking about having faith is easy, but if you don’t actually believe in the true and often logic-defying power of GOD, you’ll never really have it.
Of course, GOD can do it all—but HE isn’t in the business of making shortcuts for you! Part of having faith is taking the personal responsibility to do what you can, as well as you can.
Just trust in HIM to do the rest!
